Questions and Answers
What is Slim Up ?
Slim Up is made of 99% natural sugar and 1% aspartame.
It tastes and looks like natural sugar -> it is in granule form.
First in Malaysia, we have processed natural sugar into low calorie ->it is actually "processed sugar". Through a unique coating process with Aspartame, Slim UpTM provides the extra sweetness level -> A sachet (2.6g) equals the sweetness of 2 teaspoons of normal sugar.
You can enjoy the same sweetness as sugar but only consume 1/3 amount of sugar.
Instead of adding normal sugar, now you can make your favourite hot and cold beverages (coffee or tea) with Slim UpTM sugar.
It is also suitable for fruits, yoghurt, corn flakes, desserts etc.
What are the benefits of consuming Slim Up?
Slim Up is a healthy alternative to normal sugar. It tastes and looks like natural sugar.
You are now able to reduce sugar consumption (i.e. calorie intake) without sacrificing the good taste of natural sugar.
In long term, it keeps you slim and healthy while you are consuming sugar just like everyone else around you.
Why Slim Up is described as "low-calorie sweetener" at the bottom of its packaging?
Slim Up was launched in Japan in 1994 as "processed sugar" (natural sugar processed into low calorie sugar).
However, Malaysian Food Acts and Regulation did not accept our new product concept of "processed sugar" since it is first in Malaysia and there is no such definition of product category.
Besides, Slim Up is made of 99% of natural sugar, and hence it does not meet the requirement of category "sugar" as well ("sugar" under regulation must contain 99.5% of natural sugar).
To sum up, the classification of Slim Up under "low-calorie sweetener" is due to restriction of Malaysian regulation.
Slim Up is definitely natural sugar with low-calorie, and not artificial sweetener.
Is Slim Up a slimming product ?
Slim Up is not necessary for slimming. Slim Up is a brand name only.
It is different from the word "slimming", it has no actual meaning.
However, with the long-term effect of consumption plus physical exercise, it will help in keeping you slim and healthy (because of lower calorie intake).

What is Aspartame contained in Slim Up
?
Is it artificial and harmful to health ?
Aspartame is a sweetener that was discovered in 1965.It is made up of 2 amino acids : phenylalanine + aspartic acid.
Amino acid (the "building blocks" of protein) are found in many protein-containing food that we eat every day, e.g. milk, grains, meat and vegetable.
Aspartame tastes a lot like sugar but it is nearly 200 times sweeter than sugar. However, aspartame does not promote tooth decay.
Internationally, aspartame has received widespread approval as a safe sweetener, and has been consumed in over 100 countries worldwide.
Major health organizations (including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration) have found Aspartame to be safe for pregnant women.
However, diet food (those sweetened with Aspartame) are not intended for use by infants and very young children ?This is because children at this age need lots of energy for proper growth and development, and should not be restricted in calorie intake.
Majority of studies have found no association between Aspartame and headache - even at dosages above the ADI level.
Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI)
US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set the maximum acceptable daily intake (ADI) of aspartame at 50 milligrams(mg) per kilogram of body weight per day.
For example,
Body weight calculation Total ADI
45kg 45* 50mg 2,250mg / 2.25g
50kg 50* 50mg 2,500mg/ 2.50g
To illustrate, a person with 45kg weight can take 2.25g of aspartame per day, and a person with 50kg weight can take 2.5g of aspartame per day.
Other information :
Product Amount of aspartame Acceptable intake (for 50kg weight )
Slim UpTM -25s 26mg per sachet 96 sachets per day
PAL SWEET
- 50s 40mg per sachet 62.5 sachets per day
PAL SWEET
- 100t 20mg per tablet 125 tablets per day
PAL SWEET
- 300t 20mg per tablet 125 tablets per day
Unsuitable for Phenylketonurics
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare hereditary disorder. In US, only 1 in 15,000 is born with it, and it is 1 in 18,000 in Japan.
Phenylketonurics, are people that do not have enough of the enzyme needed to break down the amino acid phenylalanine.
Phenylketonurics must limit their intake of this amino acid from all food sources.
Aspartame is a source of the amino acid phenylalanine.
Therefore, like all other low-calorie products with aspartame, Slim UpTM is not suitable for Phenylketonurics.
Is Slim Up suitable for cooking purpose ?
As explained on the packaging of Slim Up , it is not recommended for cooking.
This is because the stability of Aspartame (which is about 1% contained) will be affected by high temperature during long-hour cooking.
However, Slim Up is suitable for hot beverage because Aspartame's exposure under high temperature is only for a short duration.
(note : Slim Up is suitable for hot beverage as well)
