Ajinomoto (M) Bhd joins efforts to help elderly and children’s homes facing hard times caused by Covid-19 pandemic

KUALA LUMPUR: At a time when it is difficult to get donations to help maintain old folks’ and children homes due to the economic slowdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, food and seasoning manufacturer Ajinomoto (M) Bhd [Ajinomoto Company] has joined a list of existing donors to help ease the hardship by contributing to a food bank for the homes.

And the company has made this contribution its first charity project for the new year under The Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value (ASV), which is an initiative to promote better health and the well-being of the needy and underprivileged sector of the community.

“We understand the homes have been going through difficult times in the current Covid-19 pandemic, and we are glad we can play a part in helping to alleviate the hardship of some of the homes,” Ajinomoto Company’s Chief Sales & Marketing Officer Noriko Saito said.

She was speaking at a ceremony today to present cash and Ajinomoto Products amounting to a total of RM20,000 to Persatuan Kebajikan Rainbow Bridge Malaysia to be channelled to 23 homes in the Klang Valley through Rainbow Bridge’s food bank.

Among the old folks' and children’s homes and the homes for inmates with special needs that will benefit from the contribution are: Shah Alam Rumah Kebajikan Wargamas Charis, AiYiDe Old Folks Home, Lighthouse Children Welfare Home Association, Rumah Titian Kaseh, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Akal Tercacat and House of Joy.

The presentation was held at the Rumah Titian Kaseh (Asrama Putera), a shelter home for children in Taman Duta, Kuala Lumpur, which houses 50 boys between the ages of 6 and 18 years.

Saito said Ajinomoto Company collaborated with Rainbow Bridge for dispensing its aid to the homes because Rainbow Bridge was a non-profit organisation that supported homes for the needy and underprivileged and which had an established network to reach out to the homes.

“Our contribution today to the homes will not be the last,” added Saito.

Rainbow Bridge vice-chairman Mervin Mohan Appana, who received the presentation from Saito, said Ajinomoto Company’s contribution would help towards the organisation’s food-related programmes for the homes.

“We are grateful that Ajinomoto Company has joined our list of corporate and individual donors to support these homes, and we hope Ajinomoto Company will continue to play a role in our joint efforts to ensure availability of food and adequate nourishment for residents of the homes,” he said.
