Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad Receives Double Recognition at AREA 2026 for Sustainability Excellence

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 JULY 2026 – Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad (AMB) has achieved a significant milestone in its sustainability journey after receiving two awards in the Green Leadership and Corporate Sustainability Reporting categories at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2026, held at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by Enterprise Asia and endorsed by Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, AREA is one of Asia’s leading award platforms that recognises companies for sustainable and responsible business practices. Since its establishment in 2011, the award has honoured more than 2,000 companies across 19 countries.

Representing AMB at the award ceremony were Senior Independent Non-Executive Director Clement Cheong Heng Choy, Chief Production Officer Yong Kum Cheng, Senior General Manager Ramesh A/L Sadiappan, Deputy Senior General Manager Lee Soon Howe, and Senior Specialist Nurul Hamizah Abd Halim.

The double recognition reflects AMB’s continued commitment to integrating sustainability into its business operations and corporate strategy, with a strong focus on environmental stewardship, responsible governance and transparent reporting.

Under the Green Leadership category, AMB was recognised for its efforts in driving decarbonisation and circular economy initiatives. Since 2018, AMB’s factory in Bandar Enstek has implemented various initiatives, including green building features, energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy solutions, and cleaner fuel alternatives to reduce carbon emissions. These efforts contributed to the factory achieving Green Building Index (GBI) Gold Rating in 2024.

AMB also continues to strengthen its environmental performance through renewable energy and waste management initiatives. Its 4.2 MW solar photovoltaic system generates approximately 4,500 MWh of clean energy annually, contributing 24% of total electricity usage in FY2025. Through its 4R approach, namely Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover, AMB achieved a 92.4% solid waste recycling rate and 98.4% food loss recovery rate in FY2025.

In the Corporate Sustainability Reporting category, AMB was recognised for its commitment to transparency, accountability and credible sustainability disclosure. Guided by four sustainability pillars, namely Fostering Ethical Business Practices, Promoting Better Health and Life, Regeneration of the Environment, and Empowering People and Communities, AMB continues to strengthen its reporting practices in line with Bursa Malaysia governance requirements and global standards.
