Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad Shines at ESG PLUS Awards for Environmental and Clean Energy Initiatives

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 DECEMBER 2025 — Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad has been recognised as a standout sustainability leader at the ESG PLUS Awards 2025, receiving two prestigious awards for its achievements in Circular Economy and Waste Management as well as Renewable Energy and Clean Technology, with the ceremony held on 10 December 2025 at the Sheraton Kuala Lumpur Hotel.

The ESG PLUS Awards serve as a regional platform that celebrates organisations and individuals driving strong Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. Established to inspire responsible business leadership, the awards recognise outstanding achievements and encourage companies across ASEAN and beyond to integrate sustainability into long-term growth strategies. The programme emphasises environmental stewardship, social responsibility, governance excellence, innovation in ESG, and leadership in sustainability, reinforcing that ESG is a critical business priority.

Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad stood out among regional players by securing two key recognitions, with the awards accepted by Mr. Ramesh Sadiappan, Deputy Factory Manager/ESG Coordinator, highlighting the highlighting Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad’s active leadership in promoting sustainability.

The first award, for Circular Economy and Waste Management, reflects Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad’s comprehensive efforts to reduce waste and promote resource efficiency. The company has implemented a sustainable waste management system based on the 4R approach, repurposed wastewater sludge into approved biofertilizer, and transitioned to recyclable mono-plastic packaging for AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning, replacing non-recyclable Non-PO Mix materials with recyclable PO Mix packaging.

Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad’s contributions extend beyond its operations by diverting non-recyclable waste for Refuse-Derived Fuel production, to achieve significant CO₂ abatement. Also plays an active role as a main contributor to the Malaysian Recycling Alliance (MAREA), supporting national efforts to strengthen Extended Producer Responsibility in Malaysia.

The second award, Renewable Energy and Clean Technology, recognises Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad’s forward-looking investments at its SMART Factory in Enstek. The facility was designed to optimise energy, materials, and water usage, featuring a 4.2 MW solar photovoltaic system generating approximately 4,500 MWh of clean energy annually. It has also earned CVA GOLD certification under the Green Building Index, and comprehensive Energy Audits were conducted to identify further efficiency improvements.

These achievements reaffirm Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad’s commitment in advancing its ESG journey, and with the recognition further strengthening environmental, social, and governance performance through ongoing initiatives and creating long-lasting positive impact for its stakeholders and business sustainability.
