Energy Consumption
As part of Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad's clean energy initiative, our major source of energy for Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad's production processes in Bandar Enstek plant comes from natural gas as a cleaner form of fuel replacing the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Light Fuel Oil, together with the installation of solar PV systems to reduce the total energy consumption of fuel and electricity.
Embracing the imperative to minimise environmental impact while ensuring operational continuity, we committed to implementing stringent energy efficiency measures and proactive strategies to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute towards climate-related risk mitigation.
Energy Efficiency Measures
- Steam Leak Rectification and Condensate Water Recovery
- Compressed Air Leak Monitoring and Repair Programme
- Installation of High-Efficiency Air Conditioning Units
- Energy Audit
Adopting Renewable Energy
- Feasibility Study on BESS, Electric Boiler and Pre-Heat System
- Procurement of RECs from Hydropower
- Continuation of In-House Solar Energy Generation
Energy Efficiency Measures
Diesel use stayed about the same from 2023 to 2025, while petrol use increased each year. Light fuel oil and LPG stopped being used after 2023. Natural gas use rose sharply from about 596,000 Sm³ in 2023 to nearly 1.6 million Sm³ in 2025.
Purchase of Renewable Energy Through Recognised Schemes
To further enhance our transition towards green energy, we aim to purchase a virtual supply of solar energy from reliable third parties through the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP) initiative introduced by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
In 2023, 25% of electricity used by Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad's was generated by solar panels installed on our roof top and we plan to increase the percentage in the near future through optimisation.
This is made possible by the full implementation of solar power generation at the Bandar Enstek manufacturing plant since October 2022.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions
We lowered the overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in our operations and maintained our climate-related annual performance metrics, based on the Group's targets for energy emissions. Additionally, we also track sources that may contribute to climate change, such as food losses (which represent production resource inefficiencies) and plastic waste across all Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad's divisions.

Green Building Index (GBI) Gold rating
Built for a greener future, Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad’s eco-friendly factory has earned the prestigious Green Building Index (GBI) Gold rating - a testament to our commitment to sustainability and environmental excellence.
