Ghee Rice is a popular rice recipe from South East Asia and is often served as a main dish during the special ceremony or celebration. Ghee Rice is known for its distinctive taste and aroma, making it a favourite among food lovers.
The rice is cooked with basmati rice, pure ghee, & whole spices. This easy recipe from Ajinomoto Malaysia is delicious either eaten with Chicken Rendang, Palembang Beef, ‘Ayam Masak Merah’, and Chicken Curry or eaten alone.

Ingredients A:
2 tbsp | Ghee |
1 | Cinnamon stick |
2 | Star anise |
4 | Cloves |
3 | Cardamom |
2 | Pandan leaf, cut into 4 |
1 small | Onion, thinly sliced |
3 cloves | Garlic, thinly sliced |
1 inch | Ginger, thinly sliced |
Ingredients B:
¼ tsp | Turmeric powder |
380 g | Basmathi rice, soaked 15 minutes & drained |
660 ml | Water |
120 ml | Low-fat milk |
1 1/3 tsp | AJI-NO-MOTO® |
2/3 tsp | Salt |
Ingredients C:
2 tbsp | Raisins |
50 g | Green peas |
Some | Mint leaves |

- Heat ghee, saute ingredients (A) until fragrant and yellowish.
- Add ingredients (B), stir and transfer to the rice cooker. Cook until done.
- Serve with ingredients (C).
